Bachtoberfest Opening Concert
Church of the RedeemerA quartet of soloists, trumpet, flute, oboe and violin provides a festive sparkle to one of Bach’s most popular orchestral works, his Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. The Key Chorale Chamber Singers perform Bach’s joyful double choir motet and one of Bach’s earliest and most intricate cantatas written.

Bachtoberfest Organ Recital & Bach's Lunch
Church of the Redeemer Goewey HallOrganist Sam Nelson comes from a long lineage of Red-Blooded Bach interpreters. This concert will feature Sam playing some of Bach’s most well-known organ works in a way that you’ve never heard before; all on Church of the Redeemer’s pipe organ—the largest pipe organ in Sarasota. Forget all your preconceptions about organ music and bask in the kaleidoscope that is the music of Johann Sebastian Bach!

Bachtoberfest Period Instruments Chamber Concert
Church of the RedeemerA rare opportunity in Sarasota—baroque music on instruments made during the time of J.S. Bach. Gut strings, musical delicacy and nuance, and buttery tonalities will all be a part of this special chamber music concert. Featuring multiple harpsichords and a baroque chamber ensemble on period instruments. The concert concludes with Bach’s most musically complex motet for SSATB and continuo, Jesu, meine Freude, BWV 227, performed using one voice per part.

Bachtoberfest Closing Concert
Church of the RedeemerVoices, trumpets and timpani ring out with joy as we celebrate the 300th anniversary of Bach’s mighty Magnificat. Soprano Mary Wilson’s dazzling coloratura extends to a heavenly high C in Bach’s only cantata scored for solo trumpet and soprano. Plus, the Chamber Singers’ luminous voices soar bringing out Bach’s dramatic and antiphonal effects.

Triumph of Love
Church of the PalmsWitness the US Premiere of The Legend of Bijan and Manijeh by Iranian composer Farhad Poupel, for piano, choir, and orchestra, with concert pianist Jeffrey Biegel. This evocative work is based on an ancient Persian love story taken from the Shahnameh (The Book of Kings), an epic poem by Persian poet Ferdowsi written between 977 and 1010 CE. Other love stories, mythical and historical, are brought to life through music of the great composers.
