Ola Gjeilo’s Dreamweaver is a story of a holiday transformation inspired by a Norwegian folk poem featuring Lithuanian soprano Lina Dambrauskaite, an emerging operatic artist gaining attention worldwide. When Icicles Hang highlights the charming choreography of Maria Konrad which captures perfectly the joy and mystery of the holiday season.

Baroquefest Opening Concert - Vivaldi & Handel
Church of the RedeemerAct 1 - Known as the ‘Red Priest’ for his curly red hair and fiery music, Vivaldi composed more than 500 concertos, none more famous then The Four Seasons. We will feature Sarasota Orchestra concertmaster Daniel Jordan in Autumn; vibrant and colorful as the leaves of the season. Grammy-nominated soprano Yulia Van Doren will display her dazzling coloratura in one of Vivaldi’s most virtuosic compositions ever and will combine with mezzo soprano Thea Lobo for his popular Gloria. Act 2 - Music fit for royalty, composed by the King of Baroque, George F. Handel. Festive sounds of trumpets and timpani permeate the occasion with works written for the coronation of King George II and the rarely heard Te Deum commemorating the British victory and the King’s safe return from the Battle of Dettingen.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to stand up and dance, and you might be surprised to hear the description of a medical procedure with musical accompaniment! Theorbo (a lute with bass strings that is over 6’ long) and viola da gamba are just a few of the unique period instruments that you will hear, along with harpsichord and a quartet of vocalists.
